Review: Hourglass: Claudia Gray 3 Stars

Hourglass: Claudia Gray
Synopsis: Goodreads
Bestselling author Claudia Gray’s Evernight series continues. In Hourglass, Bianca and Lucas have found a way to be together. But it means lying to the people who care about them the most.

After escaping from Evernight Academy, the vampire boarding school, Bianca and Lucas seek refuge with Black Cross, the elite group of vampire hunters led by Lucas’s stepfather. When Bianca’s close friend—the vampire Balthazar—is captured by Black Cross, Bianca knows she has to do whatever it takes to save him. But at what cost?

Hourglass, the third book in this gripping vampire series by the author of the New York Times bestseller Stargazer, has all the romance, suspense, and page-turning drama that have made Claudia Gray’s books runaway successes.

Cover:
I thought the cover was okay, but I do like how the series all look like they are part of a set!
My Review:
Okay I don’t know what I am going to say about Hourglass, so we will see how this goes. To begin with I read Evernight & Stargazer in the Fall of 2009, so it’s been a while since I read the series.  I will say I really enjoyed these two books and since Stargazer ended on a cliff hanger I really needed to see what happened next. Another note I might add I started this book when I was on my trip to DR, (for my grandma’s funeral) and when I first started it, I wasn’t all that interested because of everything that was going on and the book seemed so  silly to me because of everything that was going on in my life…. So I don’t know if that’s one of the reasons it took me so long to finish this book and why I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other 2.

Okay so this book begun right after Stargazer, with Bianca & Lucas hiding in Black Cross. I don’t know why but I couldn’t really connect with Bianca & Lucas. All throughout the book the just seemed so childish and immature and ignorant to so many things. I mean I get that there teenagers but still. I just felt them running away with no real plan and just hoping everything works out was not smart. And even though Lucas & Bianca were together throughout the whole book, I just felt it was a teen girl obsessed over a boy she barely knows and risked everything and left her family… I don’t know what it was about this book it just didn’t rub me the right way. I guess I am also use to having that male lead be wiser and older and have that edge as why our protagonist would fall in love. Though Lucas could fight and protect Bianca he just didn’t seem that OMG. He just seemed like any other teen boy that happened to meet a vampire.

Bianca I felt was so weak in this book, she would be whining a lot and I don’t think she did much to help herself in many of situations. The plot was not working for me either. I feel so bad reviewing this book like this but it just didn’t work for me. I guess I had such high expectations for it and it didn’t deliver.

The sad thing is that this book wasn’t bad, neither was the writing, or the action or anything like that. I think I am noticing that I like certain types of books and characters. I don’t like books YA books that show the every immaturity of teens. I really love strong characters. I think that I just felt this book could have been better. I feel that there are a lot of better books out there and that’s why I didn’t enjoy it as much.  I think that the people that have read the 1st 2 books will continue enjoying this series but I won’t. For example I read the Gossip Girls book, and I really enjoyed it  but it’s not my type of book because there’s so many immature things that happened that I realized I won’t be getting out of this book what I want. It’s the same reason why I won’t read the House of Night series, because it’s too I don’t know high school too much boy drama with a paranormal twist.

So I hope other people enjoyed this book, because it wasn’t bad by all means but it just wasn’t for me. The premise of this series is different and original! So please continue reading the series if you started it! BTW my favorite characters in this book by far was Vic & Ranulf, I really enjoyed them they were so funny and I always liked them since book 1.

***SPOILER*** One thing is for sure the ending was pretty retarded. I already had guessed that Lucas would turn into a vampire.. but really he was to proud to let Bianca drink from him and turn him so they could be together. Hereally didn’t want to become one and he still ended up as a vampire only now Bianca is a wraith. I don’t know about you but that was retarded. I think that’s a way the author tried to  make the book have a twisted ending!

Firespell  Chloe Neil
Synopsis: Goodreads

As the new girl at the elite St. Sophia’s boarding school, Lily Parker thinks her classmates are the most monstrous things she’ll have to face…

When Lily’s guardians decided to send her away to a fancy boarding school in Chicago, she was shocked. So was St. Sophia’s. Lily’s ultra-rich brat pack classmates think Lily should be the punchline to every joke, and on top of that, she’s hearing strange noises and seeing bizarre things in the shadows of the creepy building.

The only thing keeping her sane is her roommate, Scout, but even Scout’s a little weird—she keeps disappearing late at night and won’t tell Lily where she’s been. But when a prank leaves Lily trapped in the catacombs beneath the school, Lily finds Scout running from a real monster.

Scout’s a member of a splinter group of rebel teens with unique magical talents, who’ve sworn to protect the city against demons, vampires, and Reapers, magic users who’ve been corrupted by their power. And when Lily finds herself in the line of a firespell, Scout tells her the truth about her secret life, even though Lily has no powers of her own—at least none that she’s discovered yet…

I love the cover of this book and I will be starting it later today..... I also have the second book in the series Hexbound! I hope I enjoy this series and that it's a quick read

I am very excited to read this book I read the first two books last year. I don't remember to many of the fine details of stargazer. All I remember is that Bianca escaped with Lucas and she'es with his family and they don't know what she is.  I will be starting it later today!
SO what are you guys reading this week?

On My Wishlist.....*4*

On My Wishlist is a great event that Book Chick City runs every Saturday. It's where you list all of the books that you desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. I thought this was a great way to start off my blog.
There  are 3 Main books that I have been itching to get my hands on, that for some reason everyone has read.

Nevermore: Kelly Creagh
SYNOPSIS: GOODREADS
And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting

On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;

And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,

And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;

And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor

Shall be lifted - nevermore!

--from "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe

Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game.

Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind.

Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

This books  summary really didn't sound like a book that I would read. But about 3 or 4 months ago I kept seeing so many people review this book so highly and how  great it is I just had to add it to my TBR list. I can't wait to get this book so I can see what all the fuss is about.

This book series I have been reading kinda slow. I actually think it's pretty good. I haven't around to finishing it because I have a million other books to finish but now that the last book is out I really need to catch up so I can see how Bianca's story ends.

Meridian: Amber Kizer
Synopsis: Goodreads
Half-human, half-angel, Meridian Sozu has a dark responsibility.
Sixteen-year-old Meridian has been surrounded by death ever since she can remember. As a child, insects, mice, and salamanders would burrow into her bedclothes and die. At her elementary school, she was blamed for a classmate’s tragic accident. And on her sixteenth birthday, a car crashes in front of her family home—and Meridian’s body explodes in pain.
Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she’s a danger to her family and hustled off to her great-aunt’s house in Revelation, Colorado. It’s there that she learns that she is a Fenestra—the half-angel, half-human link between the living and the dead. But Meridian and her sworn protector and love, Tens, face great danger from the Aternocti, a band of dark forces who capture vulnerable souls on the brink of death and cause chaos.

This book has been on my TBR list forever. It's such a beautiful cover. I really need to read it!
