Review: The Iron King: Julie Kagawa

The Iron King: Julie Kagawa
The Iron Fey: 1
Synopsis: Goodreads
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined…
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

This cover is very pretty. It's very incognito and I love all the green/blue goes very with the story.
My Review:
So I have wanted to read this book for a long time because of all the wonderful reviews. One of the things I can say about this that the characters are very fun to read. I love Puck’s attitude he’s very sarcastic, blasé, and non chalant about everything. He’s just so laid back about everything. When I started reading the book Meghan sounds like she has a crummy life and so many things suck about it and I felt real bad for her. I mean people think she’s a hillbilly because her stepdad refuses to go with technology and I think is a pig farmer (I know weird).

Another character that I like is Grim (the cat), when he was introduced he reminded me of the Cheshire cat from Alice in wonderland, and as I continued reading the book I just pictured my one cat LOL. I love his personality he’s too funny. I mean he literally disappears when there’s trouble and conveniently appears when everything is settles. I mean he really becomes amused by Meghan ignorance and what she does. I love how he blatantly says his intentions and actually is very helpful. He’s like the all knowing cat that disappears randomly love it!!

Another great thing about this book is how I literally couldn’t predict anything. When I thought the story was going one way it pulled in another direction. I couldn’t guess anything besides that I knew the book was about fairies (which is pretty obvious.) A point I enjoyed reading about was when Meghan finally entered Nevernever. It sounded so magical and dangerous at the same time. It reminded me once again of Alice and Wonderland when she goes down the rabbit hole (which they actually reference too). Nevernever is really kind of scary because literally everything wants to eat Meghan. I wished at time she had Rose’s (from Vampire Academy) strigoi killing powers. I wanted her to fight back but at least she wasn’t a whiner and was smart. Especially when it came to getting caught by the not so smart goblins I think. Meghan does have heart and is brave I must say that. She definitely is strong willed and so easily offered favors just to save her brother even though she might not know the consequences.

Although the reason for Puck & Ash being enemies is very sad I did enjoy their fights. That Puck is a trickster and it was very funny to hear their trash talk. Now I never actually fully read any of the reviews. I knew there was a team ash & puck. My automatic understanding was Prince Ash was going to be a prince charming and Meghan and him were going to fall in love and he was going to be her rock. Boy was I surprised and pleasantly at that. Who would have known Ash was part of Queen Mab’s court. And enjoyed hunting and killing and had this icey nature to him. I loved how he put his guard down sometimes he was so interesting to read about and I really wanted him and Meghan to fall in love. Now can I say Ash is awesome? I mean seriously is he strong or what? I mean here were like 3-4 times he could of died and yet he prevailed, I call that pretty awesome.

The only thing that kind of annoyed in this book that Meghan also managed to get herself captured or managed to get in some trouble. I mean it wasn’t too bad but it was a little annoying and the fact that it was a long journey. I mean they literally traveled everywhere, maybe the author did that purposely that way she could really introduce the world. But at times I was like come on can we get there already. One thing I really loved and I think they are so cute are the Pack rats. As soon as they were introduced I pictured a furry little animal playing with a cute little toy. Don’t ask me why but they were so cute. I loved how they came through for Meghan they were awesome and I hope I see them again in the other books. This book was definitely something I really didn’t want to put down. I loved this world. I was introduced to so many creatures but I didn’t find it annoying by being over whelmed or not providing enough info about them. I thought it was done very well. The author did a great job at making it a page turner. I am so happy I read this book so quickly. I will definitely be reading the whole series!

This my cat Felix and also my version of Grim when I was reading the book. I really loved him he's my favorite character from the whole series!!
