Review: The Hunger Games : Suzanne Collins

Title: The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games: Book 1
Summary:
Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

My Review:
SO what a differnt pull from my usual paranormal romance but then again not really. This book was really really good. This is a definate must read that will capture you. The only reason I read it was for its high praise and I see why. It was well done, exciting, adventure, romance, crazy society. I really thought it was going to make me depressed with the whole post apocalyptic world, the poorness, and the ease that the capitol has all this money and od crazy thing but the boook pulls you so quickly its hard to stop.I read it in one sitting which was not easy, I had to avoid all phone calls.

Katniss, Gale, and Peeta are all very likeable. I like Katniss the protagonist because she is strong spiritually, physically, and emotionally. I love how she does what she has to for her family. I couldnt stop routing for her the whole time. I mean you just cant help it. I was guessing at the begining that Gale and her were going to be elected for the hunger games, but it felt a little too predictable. I was pleasently surprised how the book played out putting Katniss and Peeta in . I love all the background stories and the character developemnt is awesome.

I really grew to care for Peeta and at times was unsure about him like Katniss. The whole love triangle was a completly knew spin I havnt seen. It was good because although i really liked Peeta I couldnt forget about Gale and I loved that neither did Katniss, everything she did in the arena she would always refer back to Gale. im hoping in the sequel her and Gale can get together and change this horrible world they live in.

I guess one of the reason why I like this book so much and i think will love the trilogy because the way it ends i think will be life changing for the characters (i least i hope). What I mean is that I think the author will make our protagonist change the world they live in for the better . {Similarly like in the Vampire Academy series,i cant wait for last sacrifice because i think richelle mead will make rose & lissa for ever change the court and moroi society at least i hope so }.

I cant help but enjoy books that you literally see the changes and the growth within the series. (similar to the uglies trilogy)I like how Katniss still managed to stay true to her self through the whole book. she didnt turn savage at all she was moral, but still did what had to be done. She is an amazing character.
