Favorite Quotes *6*

So I decided to feature my favorite quotes of Wither on my blog. As I read more books, I will also be adding any other favorite quotes I have with other books that I read. I just love the feeling of having certain quotes transporting me to a part in the Book! ** Some spoilers if you have not read the book!**
Since I just finished Catching Fire: Suzanne Collins 5 STARS, Here's my review!
  • "So it's you and a syringe against the Capitol? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans."
  • "You know, you could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him."
  • Really, the combination of the scabs and the ointment looks hideous. I can't help enjoying his distress. "Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven't looked pretty?" I say."It must be. The sensation's completely new. How have you managed it all these years?" he asks."Just avoid mirrors. You'll forget about it," I say. "Not if I keep looking at you," he says."
  • "I always channel my emotions into my work. That way, I don't hurt anyone but myself."
  • "Gale is mine. I am his. Anything else is unthinkable.
  • "We had to save you because you're the mockingjay, Katniss," says Plutarch. "While you live, the revolution lives."
  • "I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me."
  • "The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol's plans. The symbol of the rebellion."
  • "I'm so sorry," I whisper. I lean forward and kiss him. His eyelashes flutter and he looks at me through a haze of opiates. "Hey, Catnip." "Hey, Gale," I say. "Thought you'd be gone by now," He says. My choices are simple. I can die like a quarry in the woods or I can die here beside Gale. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to stay right here and cause all kinds of trouble."  "Me, too," Gale says. He just manages a smile before the drugs pull him back under."
  • "Technically, I am unarmed. But no one should ever underestimate the harm that fingernails can do. Especially if the target is unprepared."
  • "Katniss," Gale says softly. I recognize that voice. It's the same one he uses to approach wounded animals before he delivers a deathblow. I Instinctively raise my hand to block his words but he catches it and holds on tightly. Don't," I whisper. But Gale is not one to keep secrets from me.
Katniss, There is no District Twelve."

  • "I guess this is a bad time to mention I hung a dummy and painted Seneca Crane's name on it..."
  • "It must be very fragile, if a handful of berries can bring it down."
  • "That if desperate times call for desperate measures, then I'm free to act as desperately as I wish."
  • "I pull an arrow, whip the notch into place, and am about to let it fly when I'm stopped by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta. And it's so bizarre, even for Finnick."
  • "I can only form one clear thought.  This is no place for a girl on fire."
  • "I don't care if you got knocked up. I can still rip your throat out"
  • "What about you?" "Not a clue. I keep wishing I could bake a cake or something."
  • "Fine. Somebody else can arrange to get the stupid goat knocked up."
  • "But Mockingjays were never a weapon," said Madge. "They’re just songbirds. Right? "Yeah, I guess so,” I said, But it’s not true. A mockingbird is just a songbird. A mockingjay is a creature the capitol never intended to exist. They hadn’t counted on the highly controlled jabberjay having the brains to adapt to the wiled, to thrive in a new form. They hadn’t anticipated its will to live." "What's going on down there, Katniss? Have they all joined hands? Taken a vow of nonviolence? Tossed the weapons in the sea in defiance of the Capitol?' Finnick asks.
  • "Remember, girl on fire,” he says, “I'm still betting on you."
  • "And to us, we're more married than any piece of paper or big party could make us."

Since I just finished Wither: Lauren Destefano 4 STARS, Here's my review!
  • "Fate, I think, is a thief."
  • ""I always knew I was an excellent liar; I just didn't know that I had it in me to fool myself."
  • "Eventually I realize that I am holding on to him just as tightly as he holds on to me. And here we are: two small dying things, as the world ends around us like falling autumn leaves."
  • "The trick was looking past the illusion, because the exit was never as far away as it seemed."
  • "I wonder if she has figured out that I'll never love Linden, especially not in the way she does, and that he'll never love anyone the way he loves her. I wonder if she realizes, despite all her efforts to train me, that I can never take her place."
  • "She smiles at our husband as she moves, and he blushes, overcome by her beauty. But I know what her smile really means...Her smile is her revenge."
  • ""My sisters were in that van."
  • "Times like this, when she slips her hand into mine and holds on tight, and our husband becomes just a shadow in the doorway."
  • "As I go, I hear her screaming my name, in a brutal, bloody way, like she's being murdered, which maybe she is. But slowly. It will take her six years to die."

Wither: Lauren Destefano
Synopsis: Goodreads
What if you knew exactly when you would die?

Thanks to modern science, every human being has become a ticking genetic time bomb—males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out.

When sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Despite her husband Linden's genuine love for her, and a tenuous trust among her sister wives, Rhine has one purpose: to escape—to find her twin brother and go home.

But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden's eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to break free, in the limted time she has left.

This cover is just so romantic and ethereal. I really love it her hair her dress it's very artsy and I love it!
My Review:
Okay so I really don’t know how to start this review. I know that I was extremely excited to read this book and I kept hearing great things about it. When I began the book I had no idea what it was about to be honest, I knew it was dystopian and a great book. I don’t like to know the plots or summaries previous to reading the books because then the book get ruined even if it’s spoiler free. SO to be honest I didn’t know what to expect. And what I read I was really surprised.

To begin I wasn’t expecting a world like this. It was very dark in a sense but the book wasn’t gloomy. I think the author did a great job at balancing the two. Rhine the protagonist was so interesting to read about. I think the way she contemplated about her life as Mrs. Ashby & kidnapped girl was amazingly written. When the book began I was like how can she stand being in this world. It’s horrible how can she be forced to marry someone and be kidnapped from her brother it’s pretty horrible. But then it’s balanced out by a not so horrible husband, and having everything she could desire (food, games, pool, beautiful house, loving husband, and amazing staff) except freedom. At times while reading the book I would think to myself it’s not so bad, maybe she should stay and make Lindson happy.  That right there is why I think the author did an amazing job, because she had me contemplating the realness to this life Rhine was living. There were points in this book were Rhine would lie so beautifully that she believed the lies herself.

Rhine was an amazing character that was so strong willed. She played her part beautifully and stuck to her plan. I felt so bad for Jenna, she was the hardest to read about. She’s like that person you can’t save and you know is doomed. She was an amazing sister wife and wish her story could have ended differently. Cecily was so naïve in every way but it wasn’t her fault. She was so easily manipulated.  Lindson was so much like Cecily, he was naïve and sweet at the same time. It was unfortunate that he had such a horrible father to control his life like that. I really like him, and I would forget at times that he was only 21 and acted so much older at times. I was left wanting Rhine to love him at times. But I knew it could not be so. This book reminded me of Matched, in the way there was no freedom. Although matched was an extreme case controlling Vaughn was not too far off.  Vaughn was a great villain, I will say that. What he did was horrible and he was so creepy at times that I would be scared for Rhine. I really felt like he watched her at all times. He really freaked me out.

Now this book is not my normal type of book that I read. It was different and not what I was expecting. It reminded me of Matched, in that it was slower paced but then not really. Not much happened action wise, but things were still moving. It was slower paced but not boring!  I am one to say that if I would have known that this book was about polygamy, dying races, kidnappings, and all the other horrible stuff in this book I probably wouldn’t have read it. BUTTTT!!!!!! It was done so well that I am glad I didn’t know much about the book. I normally love reading my paranormal romance where I ache for that kiss, or can’t wait for that couple to get together. Wither is not this at all!!!!!! But just because it wasn’t doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. Now that I think about it, before I read Hunger Games I read the summary and did not want to read it because I thought that’s not my type of book. BUT man am I glad I read it. Granted Wither is no Hunger Games but you get the point. I can’t wait to read the second book that follows this trilogy. It was so well written and I really couldn’t put the book down.  I am so glad I read this book!!

Favorite Quotes *4*

So I decided to feature my favorite quotes of Angelfire on my blog. As I read more books, I will also be adding any other favorite quotes I have with other books that I read. I just love the feeling of having certain quotes transporting me to a part in the Book! ** Some spoilers if you have not read the book!** I must also admit that many are Will quotes because he is just so swoon worthy!!!!
Since I just finished Angelfire: Courtney Allison Moulton 4 STARS, Here's my review of Angelfire!
  • "As I swung a third time, he grabbed my wrist. "That's enough hitting," he growled. "You don't exactly hit like a girl, you know."
  • "I guess it's true that love makes you blind." "No," my mom said. "It doesn't make you blind. You're very, very aware of everything about the one you truly love, whether you know it from what your eyes tell you or your heart. So no, love doesn't make you blind. It paralyzes you until you can't breathe or run away from it."
  • "And everytime you die, a little piece of me dies with you."
  • "I am so sick of you pulling this Batman shit on me!"
  • "And I am your guardian, your bodyguard, sworn to protect and defend you. And you are making my job excruciatingly difficult."
  • "I don't want to die and come back and not remember your face, Will. I don't want to spend another lifetime not knowing who you are!"
  • "He reached forward to cup my cheek, the touch surprising me. "Please understand that no matter what I am or what has happened in the past, I am yours. I am devoted to you above all else, including my own life." I exhaled after holding my breath for what felt like forever. "That's pretty heavy, Will." His expression was impassioned, and the backs of his fingers brushed the side of my neck. "It is a burden I am glad to carry."
  • ""His fingers traced the curve of my shoulder softly, as his gaze fell. I gasped sharply. If he tried to kiss me, I'd slap the crap out of him. Bond or no bond."
  • "Ellie, you need to understand," he said softly. "I exist only to serve you and fight by your side. Whether that fighting is to preserve your life or to make sure you smile, that is what I am built to do. You're all I have, and I will watch over you forever."
  • ""Love is a beautiful but terrible thing," he said. "You have to be careful with it. It can destroy you."
  • "As I listened and watched, I knew he was as perfectly aware of me as I was of him, though he kept his infallible rhythm. I knew he could sense every inch of my skin from across the floor, as I could his, feeling every thread of the powerful centuries-old bond we shared. In that moment my lips grew numb and something spun deliciously warm in my chest. In that precise moment I knew I was undeniably in love with him."
  • "No, I haven't heard that, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the proverbial insight, my stalker friend."
  • "I knew I had to live. I had to be there when you came back. You died alone, but I wouldn't let you come back alone."
  • "It was good to know that when swords failed, simple girl tactics always worked - even on monsters."
  • "I knew he was your boyfriend. Ellie Marie, I can't believe you lied to me, you hooker!"
  • "Will, I'm in love with you. You're the only one who understands what I go through every day, the only one I can share this world with."
  • "Are you coming with us?"  He looked down at me, his eyes a cool mint green. He seemed to have calmed down since Cadan left. "If you wish." "I would feel better if you were close," I whispered. "Cadan freaked me out." "Then of course," he said. "I'll follow you anywhere."
  • "I know you don't have access to that memory yet, but I don't think it's something I can just tell you. It means too much to me, I guess."
  • "I thrashed against him, but I couldn’t free my arms. I pounded my knee into his groin. His eyes bulged and he roared in pain, releasing me. It was good to know that when swords failed, simple girl tactics always worked—even on monsters."

Review: Angelfire: Courtney Allison Moulton

Angelfire: Courtney Allison Moulton
Synopsis: Goodreads
This debut, the first novel in a trilogy, is achingly romantic, terrifying, and filled with blistering action.

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.
Cover:
So I don't really like his cover it's kind of blah compared to how amazing this book was! I would of been cool if it was an action shot of Ellie attacking a reaper or of her and YUMMMMY WILL.
My Review:
Okay I have so many things to say about this book and a lot of it is good. I really enjoyed it for so many reasons, so I am forewarning you, this might be a long one, but you will just have to wait and see. **Some spoilers**
Okay so to begin I am a huge of fan of stories that start right away very naturally without feeling forced. By page 35 the male lead Will had already made his appearance and was telling Ellie about her true identity. The author did a lot of describing yet I didn’t feel overwhelmed. Ellie’s family was kinda rich and so were most people in this town. I thought that was a nice change from all the other books were the main girl is kind of just regular and they don’t care about their clothes or much of anything. The book flowed at a good pace and there was always something going on.
Let’s now begin with Ellie. I actually really liked her. She seemed very strong, non whiny, smart, and very realistic. I like how she had friends that actually seemed like they were her friends, her BFF actually seemed like she really knew her cared for her. I enjoyed how even though Ellie was rich she wasn’t a snob. I loved how she would want to smack the crap out of Will for driving her insane at times and being so cryptic. There were times I was thinking in my head come on Ellie just smack him maybe that will get Will to talk!!! Ellie was just so strong at times. Like when she wanted to tell Will how she was feeling she made sure not to say anything because how the situation played out. She was able to make herself vulnerable without being walked all over. Even at times when she wouldn’t know what to think, she didn’t go straight into denial for the next chapters. Even though at times she would be thinking about Will she never turned not even a smidge stalkerish. One last thing about Ellie is that she is smart. When Will was explaining to her how the world worked you know Reapers are evil and that's the way things are,she questioned it and didn't automatically accept it. She has a mind of her own, and even though things might falling apart al over her she remains cool.
Okay now WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay many have seen random postings of mine about Will and his yummyness. When I say he’s yummy it’s because he is! He’s a good mix of yummy, sexy, honest, cute, funny, sarcastic, mysterious, strong, vulnerable, smartassness and other words I can’t think of.  I loved how he has served Ellie for 500 years yes that’s right I said it, ,he has stayed by her side for 500 years. Even waits for her to be reincarnated 20 years or so to help her remember to be a preliator and serve as her guardian. I liked how the author didn’t automatically make Will a dick and make Ellie chase after hime throughout the majority of the book until he gave up and told her a little bit of the truth. No instead he sought her out, gave bits and pieces of information, and still maintained mysterious and trustworthy. (IE… Fallen: lauren kate) Some of my favorite scenes were when he would tell Ellie “so like yeah, I was hoping you would remember on your own by now but you haven’t so BTW I’m a reaper!)” He would say it so calmly! Omg and all those romantic scenes!!! So much tension, the way he would look at her or the things her would say…………, I almost screamed when I found out in all those 500 years of being together that was the first time they kissed. What self control!! It’s so hard for me to put into words the various parts I loved about Will because there are so many that I can’t remember them all. Just know if not for anything else this book is definitely something to read because of Will!!!
I enjoyed the side characters a lot. Ellie was going through a lot with her parents. I mean her dad WOW OH WOW can you ASSSHOLE!!!! I really thought man he must be possessed I think he’s a reaper, (btw this is still my guess even though it has not been proven and no evidence but who knows maybe book 2 will reveal my theory!) His character though hard to read was very intense and real. The mother she was extremely caring and just want the best for Ellie and really tries even though she’s really lenient. Kate her BFF had me laughing with her personality. She seemed to care Ellie a lot and I have feeling (another theory in the making) that she will be finding out Ellie’s true secrets. Landon seemed very realistic, just because he liked Ellie doesn’t mean he was automatically turned into part of a love triangle.  He likes Ellie for a long time but that doesn’t mean that he’s pining over her and now how will Ellie ever choose between the two!
Though I loved many things I enjoyed there were a few I was not a fan of but very few. Okay so Ellie got a brand new car I mean $30,000 audi andof course the author rips it to shreds. Every time some type of damage was bestowed on the car I cringed and I couldn’t believe her parents did not kill her.   With that said in this world of angels, fallen, reapers, arch angels, I kind of expected them to I don’t know have potions to fix stuff. I don’t know like when her car was ruined or during her partied when she was thrown through the window I mean everyone saw that and I thought that was huge but it wasn’t made into one which bothered me a bit. (I don’t know it’s weird) Another thing that bothered me and I find kind of annoying in books are long fight scenes. I mean I understand she kills reapers so I know she has to fight but I just feel it should not be more that 2 pages of battle or else I feel like I have ADD and get bored or can’t concentrate on the book because I don’t know what’s going on.  I mean when I was almost done and the big climatic scene came where there was a big fight I think it lasted like 10 pages or so. I tended to put the book down at that point because I can’t read that much action I am the type of reader that likes reading dialog. I couldn’t get the concept of what the arch angels were the fallen, the reapers. I didn’t understand it and I couldn’t tell what was what and why. I still don’t know it just was kind of confusing.
So overall I think this was such a great debut for this author. Awesome storyline that reminded me of other books but yet was still very unique and different. It has a good paranormal romance, action, story line,, and characters. I am very excited and sad because the book was really good so I want to read the next one but since this book just came out a few months ago who knows when I will be able to read the next one. So all in all a great book and must read! Thanks for those who stuck it with me, and read my long long review!

Favorite Quotes *3*

So I decided to feature my favorite quotes of Graceling on my blog. As I read more books, I will also be adding any other favorite quotes I have with other books that I read. I just love the feeling of having certain quotes transporting me to a part in the Book!
Since I just finished Graceling: Kristin Cahsore 5 STARS, Here's my review of Graceling!
  • "If you put your feet into the stream, the snow water will soothe your toes. and I will rub the warmth right back into them when you are done." "And if I am cold in other places than my toes? will you warm me there too?"
  • "When a monster stopped behaving like a monster, did it stop being a monster? Did it become something else?"
  • "How absurd it was that in all seven kingdoms, the weakest and most vulnerable of people - girls, women - went unarmed and were taught nothing of fighting, while the strong were trained to the highest reaches of their skill."
  • "What are you grinning at?" Katsa demanded for the third or fourth time. "Is the ceiling about to cave in on my head or something? You look like we're both on the verge of an enormous joke."
"Katsa, only you would consider the collapse of the ceiling a good joke."
  • "He laughed. "I know you"re teasing me. And you should know I'm not easily humiliated. You may hunt for my food, and pound me every time we fight, and protect me when we're attacked, if you like. I'll thank you for it."
  • "It seems better to me for a child to have these skills and never use them, than not have them and one day need them," she said."
  • "Katsa didn't think a person should thank her for not causing pain. Causing joy was worthy of thanks, and causing pain worthy of disgust. Causing neither was neither, it was nothing, and nothing didn't warrant thanks."
  • "Something caught in her throat at this second thanks, when she'd threatened him so brutally. When you're a monster, she thought, you are thanked and praised for not behaving like a monster. She would like to restrain from cruelty and receive no admiration for it."
  • "She knew he was angry, but she couldn't stop laughing. "Forgive me, Po. I was only trying to get your attention." "And I suppose it never occurs to you to start small. If I told you my roof needed rebuilding, you'd start by knocking down the house."
  • "I know you don't want this, Katsa. But I can't help myself. The moment you came barreling into my life I was lost. I'm afraid to tell you what I wish for, for fear you'll... oh, I don't know, throw me into the fire. Or more likely, refuse me. Or worst of all, despise me," he said, his voice breaking and his eyes dropping from her face. His face dropping into his hands. "I love you," he said. "You're more dear to my heart than I ever knew anyone could be. And I've made you cry; and there I'll stop."

Review: Graceling: Kristin Cashore

Graceling: Kristin Cashore

I don't particularly like this cover. It reminds me of a bible. But I do like the cover for the other edition with the girl on a mountain. It's so pretty.
My Review:
WOW WOW WOW. What an amazing book! I really loved it and it was incredible. This is definitely a must read and you shouldn’t waste time and buy this book ASAP!!!! I think this has been one of my favorite read so far in this year. That’s saying a lot considering I read Matched & Nightshade over the weekend and I still think this to be better book! I read this book in one sitting and it was awesome I would totally read it again!
I loved so many things about this book that it really is hard to summarize. Our heroine Katsa is so awesome. She had been graced to kill! She is the perfect mixture of Rose from Vampire Academy & Katnis from Hunger Games. She is as strong, deadly, snarky as Rose and compassionate and smart as Katnis.  She seriously is kick ass and so good to read about. Oh and the male lead Po (don’t care too much for the name) SWOON WORTHY. I mean he has one eye that is gold & one that is silver. I know weird but you will totally get it when you read the book. He is strong but not afraid of Katsa’s strength and individuality. But he’s so strong and attuned to so many things.  Oh and when these two practice fights man oh man is there good tension between them. I caught myself giggling with joy and having to catch my breath.

This book was also about self discovery within the characters. I loved reading about Katsa’s fears because it made her more real. She always felt herself a monster and thanks to Po she has discovered many things! I love her cousin Raffin. He was so sweet and I couldn’t get enough of him. I loved when Katsa’s asked him if she was in love with him and he just bursted out laughing. Bitterblue is so cute. With everything that she went through, she was still strong and helpful. Amazing characters that you will love!

Generally I don’t like books that are like journey like or adventure, this book made me change my mind! For example I was annoyed throughout the iron fey series because I always felt they were traveling and never getting anywhere and being held back by disruptions or mistakes. NOT THIS BOOK! They had such great characters and I just loved it. If there were one thing I would change about this book, it would be the names of the characters because they were weird and sometimes heard to remember. I mean one princess was called Bitterblue. I know weird but I got use to it. This book did not lag at all it was so fast paced, quick to read and so exciting,

There was one hope that was crushed that I wish would happen. I thought as Katsa took care of Bitterblue she would recognize that she wanted a future with kids. But I guess it really wouldn’t have been part of her character but hey a girl can hope.  I also hope she would live in Lienid but I guess training girls those girls are more true to her nature and would help her out so much.
Overall a fantastical MUST read. Such a good romance, adventure, and other good things. I can’t stress it enough for you to read this book!

Favorite Quotes *2*

So I decided to feature my favorite quotes of Matched on my blog. As I read more books, I will also be adding any other favorite quotes I have with other books that I read. I just love the feeling of having certain quotes transporting me to a part in the Book!
Since I just finished Matched by Ally Condie, early this morning I will be putting some quotes up today before I forget! Here's my review of Matched!
  • "Every minute you spend with someone gives them a part of your life and takes part of theirs."
